You can choose a specific seat on short haul Aer Lingus flights for an extra fee - more info here.

Note that like Ryanair, Aer Lingus charge a "handling fee" of €6/£6 per person, per flight (unless you pay with a Visa Electron card).

Re "airline quality" and your choice - think you'd be better off going with Aer Lingus.
