Perhaps it was an inop C seat? I had that happen to me on a PS flight JFK-SFO where just before the doors closed, the g/a came to me and asked "are you "goalie". I said yes and she told me that I was being moved to first because one of the business class seats was broken and they were going to move that pax to my seat so they got 9b and I got 2C.
