Are you super sensitive to motion sickness? I mean, even for Turbojet's HK-Island to Macau service, at least half are run by Tri-Cats or their new Austal 48ms, and most passengers seem to be okay with them. And thousands more take the Cotaijet and NWFF catamarans each day.

In fact, many are oblivious to the differences in the ferries, and one-time when boarding, I overheard someone who complained she got a "smaller" Jetfoil and not the "bigger" Tri-Cat.

And as I mentioned, the HKG-Macau route is shorter and less exposed to rough seas than the one from HK-Island.

So, it's your choice. If you get seasick really easily, and/or there's fairly rough seas that day, and you absolutely require the smoothest ride, then go ahead and head to the city. Make sure you check the schedule board and only take a Jetfoil or Foilcat. As I mentioned, many sailings are on Tri-Cats or Austals.
