If there is a Gold who wants 1A/K they will have been able to see and select it (as the poster who asked the question has). My guess is that this another of those situations where inflexible computer logic is unhelpful. Even though this is the last unoccupied seat in a full cabin the computer will not release it for a non Gold pax until T-72. At T-72 row one seats are open to everyone - if the OP is quick they should be able to get it for their Mum, if not they may find that somebody else has moved their seat selection and their Mum has the seat that the other person initially selected.

In any event probably little to worry about as I am pretty sure BA doesn't oversell F.
