For international award travel, Skymiles are often (but not always) a poor value. For domestic award travel, however, they are superb, especially for elites (better availability and other benefits such as 25K getting first-class round-trip confirmed within upgrade window for GM+, fees waived, etc.) If you seek primarily international award travel, you should definitely research the number of Skymiles needed versus what other airlines request for the same trip, then calculate if the 67% bonus is worth it.
