Easiest way to get there is to go with the USO. Their tour's pretty good. I did the tour in 2006, so the price will be no doubt different now. They leave from the Yongsan base downtown (can take a train there these days from ICN iirc) early in the morning, and get back in the afternoon.

Bleak place (can feel the tension), but well worth it.

No mean to OT. But since quite a few post mentioning the interest for DMZ. Let me give you some detail about that (as I have been there for MR last time).

1. I booked through Panmunjom DMZ JSA, which departs from Myeongdong, a tourist district.

2. Only specific tour groups can go to DMZ. No personal trip. No exceptions.

3. If you are U.S. citizen, you will have no problem. Otherwise, check with the tour operators first as you may need advance clearence from the U.N.

4. The trip takes whole day.

5. Don't bring fancy cameras (like DSLR). DPRK does not like people to use that pointing at them.

6. Not every trip go to Panmunjom, and not every trip speak English. Make sure before booking.

Remember - it is an active war zone. Although there is no active conflict, take it at your own risk.

If you want a higher chance to get into Panmunjom, try to make sure that there will be no military exercises from both sides.

Be my guest if you know how to get there.
