Personally I am a fan of the way the GP program is run. In contrast to Starwood, where complimentary suite upgrades are included for top-tier elites (but "subject to availability"), I much prefer the confirmed suite option. That way I can ensure that I have a suite for the stays that really matter, and still enjoy club rooms most of the rest of the time. Any suites I happen to land outside of that I count as pure gravy and chalk it up to a very generous loyalty program and property management.
I couldn't agree more with this sentiment. I've moved the bulk of my stays this year from Starwood to Hyatt in part because of the frustration I've experienced with suite upgrades at many Starwood properties. If I don't expect a suite, I don't particularly care if I don't get one.
