A security officer here in Europe interrogating people about their reason for flying? We don't have these people on the gates at this side of the Atlantic Ocean.

Besides, here in Europe, all languages of the EU are "offical" languages. Now think about the number of possibly needed interpreters at each gate, just in case someone is willing to answer questions only in his/her native language ... The decision was made by the pilot of the airline.
