My daughter went through this summer, declined the naked machines (gorgeous and built 20 y.o.), and they rudely dumped EVERYTHING and went through it very slowly. She told them she was connecting to an international flight and they moved even more slowly, telling her she should've gone through the scanner.
What sort of loser signs up new with the TSA? They are lower than IRS agents.
On topic, the reason Bellingham doesn't need the scanners is because their long-time agents are mostly former military and are highly trained. They are a border airport (many Canadians flying out of there because it's cheaper), and they put their money into training. They also support their agents' discretion. I feel a lot safer with trained professionals than with bottom-of-the-barrel feeders relying on naked images.
My experiences (and friends too) are a lot like your daughter's experience. The younger, prettier, and larger cup size you are, the more likely you will be chosen for the naked machines. There are some sick perverts working for the TSA. They can't get any in real life so they have to get their fix at work. I know some of the workers are good, just not any that I've encountered or heard about.
