Just a quick follow up.
On my Air Asia flight from DPS to SIN I did go to the check-in counters. The line up was long and there happen to be an Air Asia showing someone how to check-in at one of the four self-check-in machines.
I asked him if I needed to do anything now that I have my advanced boarding pass. He just looked on the outside of my passport (Canadian) and said I could advance to the gate. He did nothing else and did not update anything.
When I cleared security I needed to surrender the airline portion of my boarding pass, along with my immigration departure card and that is when the person looked at my passport.
Twenty-five minutes later .... I was XBS (Express Boarding) to take my exit row seat I had selected at time of booking.
Cheers
