I'm curious as to why you think those seats would not be padded as well as standard seats. I haven't read anything about that, with posters generally saying that the EC seats are just regular economy seats positioned with more space (and more recline). I will be interested to here if anyone responds, since I am sitting in EC on a 767 JFK to CDG in 2 weeks. There has been a lot of discussion of lack of seat padding on the AF Premium Economy seats though, but those seats are totally different than the regular AF coach seating.
RE PV padding... I flew DTW-CDG in PV last week... padding seemed fine to me. And yes, from visual observation, the seats are indeed "totally different" than regular coach seating. Includes lamp for individual reading, wider arm rest between seats, better tray for meals. Extension for foot rest but very limited recline at all... the "shell" configuration doesn't allow that. But of couse the seat in front can't recline into your space either.
