I had time to kill so I test it
So I had time to kill at MSP so I tested the timing.

If the tram has just left or it is moving away then walking will be slightly faster to get to middle stop (Skyclub, Mid C #) or if you gate is before the stop.
If the tram is approaching then the tram will be faster.
