the one I had is open in one side (kind of like a balcony feeling) towards a water feature (river with a few inches of water) and frosted glass. Since more than one of those "balcony" is open to the same river, it is not sound proof and I would say if you have big actions the person next door may see the "shadow" of your actions.
It's cool, just too bad I never have a flying companion, not to mentione one can share the carbena with me
