For 747 the best seats upstairs are generally accepted (I believe) to be row 86 which is the exit row on both new and old business class configurations. This gives you lots of legroom. It does require passengers to be able-bodied (i.e. capable of opening the emergency exit).

I wouldn't go for the bulkhead - I prefer to be able to see what's going on in the cabin rather than just staring at a wall.
