I think it is dependent on your own confidence & expectations. We had a great trip to Alaska in 2010. Our trip was totally planned from Aust & we used public transport-it can be done, you meet nice people & it doesn't do your long term personal development any harm. Do the hours, save the money & enjoy yourself!-maybe it is just the way we have always travelled?
