Couple of years ago on a ryanair flight into Derry. If was a really stormy night, many planes had been diverted from BFS to DUB, but Derry was still just about open. We had a young lady (maybe 19) beside us, who was terrified of flying, was doing all the prayers she knew, and making many up, and this was before we hit the wind.
Plane was getting badly buffeted, worst I'd had, dipping and diving dramatically, and what pretty much felt like last minute, pilot pulled out of the landing and circled.
In as smooth and cultured voice as you could ever hear the pilot said "ladies and gentleman, the airport momentarily went out of specification, and so we are having to go around again". Some time later when we are lined up again, he comes back with:-
"ok, folks, we are going to give this another go".
We landed safely, but I have to say that last speak didn't inspire us with a lot of confidence. (by this time the girl beside us was a blabbering wreck).
