Had an interesting chap for a pilot LHR-LUX about two weeks ago. About halfway through the flight, he felt the need to tell us, "This is your Captain, and we are about to begin our descent into Luxembourg. I've only ever landed there once before, a few years back, and it's a bit of a hairy place as I recall, runway-wise. They've situated the thing between two highways, on quite a hill if I remember correctly, and so I will endeavour to do my best to manage it gracefully, but do bear with me, tailwind's a bit brisk tonight, too."

That's pretty much verbatim.

I was first to the door from 1F, and he popped out after we had parked, with some genuine sweat on his brow, and when I commented that he was more entertaining than your average BA pilot, he bounced back into the cockpit, retrieved the landing printout for LUX, and proceeded tp explain it to me in intricate detail, asking repeatedly why anyone would build a runway where they did.

He was really quite amusing, and clearly still very enthusiastic about his job, even though he seemed well seasoned.

Very funny encounter.
