Confirmed: Change in EL AL Luggage Allowance

UPDATE: Changes in Baggage Policy as of November 1, 2011 - Directly from EL AL, and lists the luggage changes.

Among the numerous changes are:
  • Flights to North America, non-staus/Silvers can now only check one bag, weighing up to 23 kg, free of charge. Second bag now cost $70
  • For flights to other destinations, EL AL has switched from a pure "weight concept" (allowing in theory unlimited bags, as long as the maximum weight was not exceeded) to a combination of "weight concept" and "piece concept."
  • Allowances to other destinations dropped for premium cabins and for status passengers.

The change takes effect for all tickets ticketed on of after November 1

(Although this stinks for Y pax, it does bring LY more in line with the competition. While some airlines still do allow 2 bags, as pointed out by later in the thread, they are taking away that benefit as well. It has become a race to the bottom.)
