I'm flying out in October to France and have to have gluten free but want a better choice. I shouldn't have to bring my own meals on the plane either.

Don't feel slighted, many regular DL meals can also be described as terrible.
If are look to accrue SkyPesos and want a better meal, why not try AF?
If you don't care about the miles, there are a lot better airlines than both DL/AF that will fly you to Israel.
