The only benefits for MPC Diamonds over Emeralds are : Preferred upgrades, waitlist on award flights, the 24 hour window for guaranteed coach and business class seat,...

But the guaranteed business class seat is only for full-fare J, not if you have a D ticket. So far they have failed once to get me on a flight with a Diamond card and D ticket (it was a Friday night from SYD or MEL to HKG, and they had about 72 hours notice).

Fundamentally I think there are two things that would make me stay with Marco Polo (rather than AA):

- tier benefits of 100% of miles for Diamonds (they actually ran a promo from Sept 01 to Mar 02 where they gave a tier benefit of 100% not only on miles, but on q-miles as well - this was rather nice, and has made it somewhat easier to requalify this year)

- on renewal, simply deduct the 120,000 miles and 80 sectors from the balance of "q-points" - this is what KLM Flying Dutchman does, and it would give Diamonds some incentive to keep booking points to Marco Polo once they have reached the renewal point

I have started an email discussion with The Club on this, but unfortunately I am not getting beyond the random CSReps. Does anyone have a name (& email) for someone in the management of Marco Polo club with whom it would be worth spending time having this conversation?
