My goal is to take a nice walk or two, see the Art museum/aquarium/gardens, and be able to walk to a selection of high-end restaurants...
I'm not from Atlanta - but visit there once a year for some R&R. Considering what you want to do - and that you want to avoid renting a car - I'd go for the FS because of the location (mid-town). You can walk to the High Museum (short walk) and the Botanical Gardens (longer walk). You can take a cab to the aquarium (too long a walk for me) - and to Bodies the Exhibition. IMO - those are in general the highlights in Atlanta - and it should take you a weekend to see them.
The 2 higher end restaurants I wouldn't miss in Atlanta are Restaurant Eugene and Bacchanalia - both short cab rides from the FS.
I had problems with my room the last time I stayed at the FS - but the FS made things right at the end. Overall - I think the property needs to be renovated - but I like the location.
Took a quick look - and rooms at the FS start at $200 - not so bad. And if you book through a FSPP agent - you'll get free breakfast - room upgrade if available - spa credit - etc. Robyn
