The problem in naming aircraft for geographical divisions are that the citizenry would end up being a little too sensitive.
Imagine if the "Ontario" plane crashes or has constant maintenance difficulties. Many of other provinces would say, "ha, it figures it's the 'Ontario plane'." Or you would have conversations such as ""don't you think that the 'Saskatchewan' plane runs so much smoother then than the 'Quebec' one?"
Or would Newfoundland get upset that "their plane" would only be used on Atlantic routes rather than cross-country ones.
Based on the sensitivity issue and the fact that some things in life just should remain neutral I can see why AC would be hesitant. It's a different story for regional airlines. They are afterall . . . regional.
I think Canada should name their planes Tax Hog 1, Tax Hog 2, etc;
