I've heard much the same in my time from someone who called asking for help as XP hadn't thought to advise them their trip to S. America via MEX ran into some troubles when MX went under and then abruptly and unilaterally cancelled their tickets.
MHO is any "benefits" are more imaginary than real, though I do have a bias.
