Miles, not SWU. I would normally request online but doing that requests the upgrade for the entire trip, not just the TATL leg. The TATL flight is preceded by a domestic leg from DEN and lots of NC availability on the domestic leg so I don't want to request an upgrade and have to pay miles for what is normally a 50-50 chance at an UDU (one I really don't care about in comparison to the TATL part). So I had to call. Believe me, I will force them to stay on the line until I see the upgrade confirmed next time. I just don't understand how the lady botched it.
