Assuming you mean using CX miles to redeem a ticket on Alaska Airlines, (same also applies for AA)
How much do paid tickets cost? Buying miles directly is generally very bad value, so I would do this only if buying 4 tickets is outrageously expensive. If tickets are under, say, $400 each, then I personally would pay with cash and save the miles for something else.
Also, there must be availability at the 'saver' level on Alaska/AA, which typically corresponds with lower demand and therefore cheaper tickets. Not to mention that there may not be 4 available seats on one flight.
