I would do it - I travel a lot to the most popular resorts for leisure in X'mas time, and in those resorts I will have to compete with other HHonors members to get an upgrade - a diamond status will surely help.

Other than that, I travelled to Asia a lot and people there perceive a diamond member much higher prestige than a gold.
