I have had a similar experience. AMEX called me, asked if it was a convenient time for me and continued their sales pitch even when I said it was not. It was rather obvious it was an external agency calling, but AMEX is not doing itself any favours by hiring these rather rude sales agents.

Best to just talk to AMEX directly, as I found them to be much more compassionate, understanding and enjoyable. Lets see what kind of deal they offer me (judging by posts here, it will be 20% off and the bonus offer).
