I was called today by a telemarketeer hired by AMEX: they offer 20% on the Gold Card. Sales pitch: free travel and cancellation insurance. I already have a travel insurance. Also offered 10.000 awards miles. I said I want to think about it, doesn't seem a good deal if I have to pay more for the card (even with discount) than I do now, without having any great improvement in benefits. Cannot do he said, have to decide now, because he only gets 2.5 euro for every sale and he has no time to call people back all the time. That did it for me, I declined and will stick to silver and when the platinum status benefit disappears for the partner card holder by the end of next year I will leave Amex all together.
