So to conclude - if you arrive from outside Schengen then you WILL pass through both passport control & security.

If you are on an intra-Schengen flight then you won't pass through passport control BUT you might have to pass through security depending on how they feel that day or they used a non-Schengen gate.

In OPs case they have to pass through both passport control & security.
