Thoughts on discount last-minute Y from US to BKK via HKG on CX?

I see a couple choices for my own J ticket to BKK originating at BOS -- CX out of YYZ or JFK, I think. (Further thoughts welcomed on this.)

But I can't find many CX flights ex-US with Coach availability for depature in ~10 days.

For a companion in Y, how to get a sensible fare for travel within the next 10 days? YYZ-HKG, JFK-HKG, LAX-HKG, and SFO-HKG all seem to be sold out in discount fare classes (and choosing Economy - Unrestricted on cathaypacific.com yields fares higher than choosing Business, in my experience). Orbitz won't price CX at all, it seems, and AA agrees that CX's Coach is seemingly sold out on the flights of interest.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Could book companion in J (~$2200 one-way from YYZ) and then a corresponding one-way return originating in BKK (another $1400). But that's more than I want to spend on this ticket -- and (oddly enough) the traveller would actually prefer (or so she says) to fly coach.

Perhaps a better travel agent? Anything online to help me figure this out before I call/bother a "real" agent?

[Edited to clarify my question! -- to emphasize that the puzzle is so many flights being totally sold out in coach.]
