I'd honestly get a bit bent out of shape if I got that kind of reply at a hotel. Due to a medication I take, I can be called in for a random drug screening by my doctor's office any time (and they've done it). If grass shows up, that would cause big problems.
The front desk should also realize that more and more companies do drug screenings prior to employment. What if one of the guests was there for a job interview and had a drug screen the next day?
I'm far from being a prude, but if you want to toke a bit of weed, please do it somewhere other than a hotel room if the smoke can get out into the hallways or into other rooms. Who can really say how much you have to be exposed to for it to register on a drug screening?
