I wanted to bring a few things up.
After speaking with my Dad earlier tonight…he made some solid points. Some, if not all things he mentioned were posted here as well.
1. Delta is a bad idea ( I now completely agree)
•Making that many connections when I don’t have to will wear me down very very quickly (in a matter of weeks).
•Weather or MX delays limit my options for getting to my destination. (especially going home on Friday night, can’t count the times he came home @ noon on Saturday).
•SkyMiles is at best a so-so FF program.
2. I’m not going to be flying biz class to Europe for under $5K…at least from SFO.
3. That Delta and American do not fly to other west coast cities from SFO, except LA.
3a. I probably won’t have many flights along the West Coast, but that’s segments and miles lost to another carrier. (A feather in United’s cap).
A responder (SFOPhD) wanted to know how much direct flights mattered to me.
Answer: They matter more to me now than they did when I originally posted this some 25hrs ago.
I guess the question now is: Does United Airlines pitfalls and there are many, justify giving up 1 direct flight on my primary cities and lost miles/segments on some routes that I may only occasionally fly?
If anybody feels that I should be asking another question…POST IT!!
JS…PS.-thanks for all the advice, it helps.
