I saw one of these in Singapore as well. I was wondering whether both SIMs were active in this method. I thought with the Singapore version that your foreign SIM would be roaming on the same network that the stick on SIM was using and that some stuff passed through and other data was intercepted. With China Mobile and Unicom, this is more interesting since they couldn't be operating on the same network.
