If you really want it to travel in the cabin, I'd recommend buying a seat for it and strapping it in. It doesn't meet the size requirements for a carryon anyhow.

Why do people try to take guitars on a plane? They clearly do not fit into the thing provided and the gate to see if it will fit. I understand it can be an expensive instrument, but here's my take: Pad the living crap out of it, and check it. Seriously. I don't try to carryon my $4,000 bike, which is just as chipable, breakable, and nearly as light as your guitar.
Everytime I see an instrument in an overhead bin, I try to make my carryon fit with it.
