Does anyone know if an aucostic guitar would fit in an Embraer 145 over-head? Is it possible to check at the gate if it is not? Does it have to be in a hard-case if checked at the gate? Both flights are not full so far. Appreciate your advice.
If you get REALLY lucky, and there's an empty seat, and a nice gate agent and flight attendant, they may allow you to seat belt it into a vacant seat. I used to do that a lot, not so much anymore. I've fit an Alvarez acoustic in the overhead of a 145 before, but DEF put it in a soft shell case. HOWEVER, even if it will fit, good luck trying to get past the power trippin' gate agents and flight attendants who seem to live for making people gate check bags no matter if they fit or not. A guitar will drive them nuts. Oh, and they may make you sign a waiver so if it gets damaged they won't be held responsible.

I've given up traveling with my guitar. Just not worth the stress. I would suggest having your people in Hong Kong provide you with a guitar, makes life so much easier.
