"President and CEO Jeff Smisek told an investor conference in New York that his plan is to increase international flying as much as demand will support, and to make the domestic network as big as needed to supply passengers to international flights. Smisek said the airline can adjust 2012 flying levels depending on demand and the moves of competitors.
American Airlines said it would cut fourth-quarter flying a half-percent more than it had previously planned.
In late August, it began reducing Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday flights by about 4 percent."

It is better to attain AA EXP vs. UA 1K based on current trends, but significant downside IMO is AA flight frequency out of SFO will continue to be reduced. AA SFO flights to hubs DFW /Miami are safe. Flight reduction to Charlotte/DC/NYC is inevitable with redeployment of aircraft from SFO to its hubs, and while you can still get there via hub connections, it is additional time wasted.
Since SFO is UA hub and receives lots of intl feeder traffic from Asia, and send to ORD/IAD/NYC, flight frequency may actually increase out of SFO to 4 of your 5 cities.
