I'm going to fly in two weeks from Peoria (PIA) to Chicago (ORD) to Hong Kong (HKG). I talked to the UA to confirm a guitar wold be allowed as a carry-on.

She said it needed to be put in the over-head cabinet and probably it would be fine with the plane from Chicago (747), but might be not for the Embraer 145 from Peoria.

Does anyone know if an aucostic guitar would fit in an Embraer 145 over-head? Is it possible to check at the gate if it is not? Does it have to be in a hard-case if checked at the gate? Both flights are not full so far. Appreciate your advice.
