Returning separately from my family

Hi,

I've booked a return flight from the UK to America, traveling both ways with my family.

My employer has asked me to stay in the US for an extra week at the end of the holiday, to work in our offices there. My family would still travel home on the original date (and we would all go to the US on the booked tickets).

The upgrade cost for changing my ticket is far too high. Therefore, I'm proposing to not use my return ticket (ie throw it away) and book a separate flight back to the UK.

My family though would still be using their original return tickets. I want to check that there is no risk of my family being prevented from boarding because I'm not at the airport/getting on the flight with them.

Thanks for any feedback!
