Just because someone mentioned it doesn't make it true.
The FAA's prohibition on inflight electronic devices predates the existence of cell phones and is to prevent interference with the aircraft systems. The FCC's prohibition of cell-phone use in flight is a separate regulation and is to prevent interference with the ground network.
