The Maldives is such a daunting destination to tackle. The gorgeously (altered?) photographs of that spectacular water are distracting enough to make even the least exciting option look incredible. I'm seeing a lot of ifs and buts in this thread, and can also make note that a lot of the information is over two years old.

Can anyone who is still paying attention assist me and chime in with their top two choices on the islands for best room quality, service, food, and overall relaxing vibe? Diving isn't the primary concern, but that definitely plays into it all.

Specifically, has anyone experienced the new Anantara Villas or either of the two Jumeirah properties? And if so, how do these fare against your experiences at other tried and true properties on the islands?

Last, is One & Only still a no-no per service glitches or have they recovered? And what other properties that were once considered incredible are now no-nos if any?
