Why not just go to the invited guest line?

You have nothing to lose. In Vegas, if you 'ACT' like you belong, it works 90%+ of the time. Worst case, you spend 2 minutes in line at 'invited guest' and then go back to the regular line...

Always amazed how afraid people to use VIP lines. It's not like they are going to arrest you. (and, BTW, a $20 bill (and I'm sorry, I thought I could use this line/check in area) will basically solve the 'this is the wrong line' problem..... and that's definitely worth saving a 30-40 minute wait on a Friday night!)
