That's a very tight connection for your mum! One argument you could advance could be that it could be in BA's interest not to have a 76-year-old who isn't used to sprinting through the terminal trying to make a connection of only 85 minutes (and the published minimum connection time for a T3-T3 transfer is 70 minutes). LHR is very busy at 6am with all the overnight longhauls from the US etc arriving.
What if she "missed" the connection?
