Jeez Cameron, that is really amazing... I am sure Nicci will do her best to sort this out although you will catch her at a pretty busy time. Can you provide the exact date and flight number you want your mother to be on and the one you originally booked? Maybe someone with KVS or ExpertFlyer can provide you with the exact availability on those flights. Always good to talk to BA armed with information.
Possibly there are alternate flights you can take from LHR to MAD that were not even considered by the call centres. Once again, provide the exact travel date and between when and when you want to fly. Someone here will do the rest.
Last but not least you might want to spend (part of) the additional $1000 to bribe the hotel in Madrid just in case you need to fly earlier on your original flight.
