They informed me that the city pairs can only be either LAX or SFO on the RT to get credit for any one segment, is this true ? Yes. The T&C's of the promotion clearly mandated
round trips between the individual city pairs. Either DFW-SFO-DFW, DFW-LAX-DFW, SFO-DFW-SFO, or LAX-DFW-LAX. You *could* nest one of these RTs inside a longer itinerary (say ORD-DFW-LAX-DFW-ORD) and get DEQM for the DFW-LAX-DFW portion of that itinerary, but it was a never a promotion that awarded DEQMs for just individual legs rather than round trips.
