I have seen people at the checkpoint look at the shroud of the Xray, which is a transparent brown colour, see their items and smash their hand into the shroud trying to get their items. Worst case I have ever seen is a man tried it, smashed his had, had a confused look on his face and tried it again. Didn't work the second time either.
