And, as for alternative transport to Montreal from NYC: Amtrak takes about 11 hours. Sheesh.
Personally, I would not recommend Amtrak for crossborder due to potential delays crossing the border. I had a couple of friends who wanted to go to Niagara Falls on the Cdn side (from NYC) and I suggested they get to the US side and cross on their own. They did not heed my advice and had a 3 hour delay (on both sides)!
