I always found the hang up about Americans having passports by people in the UK kinda interesting in itself. Why would they care so much?

It is a simple fact that a lot of people arent going to get a passport if they arent going someplace that requires one.

I am wondering if the number of passport holders in Schengen countries will decrease over the coming years...similar reasons.
