There is a 10% penalty if an Americas originated trip (IATA Area 1) is cancelled within 7 days of the scheduled departure. There is no penalty if the trip originates outside the Americas, however some airlines may impose a "service fee" for their work (I believe BA charges EGP300 in CAI).
