I have a Chinese UnionPay card that gets approved by many US-based POS terminals, but about half of the transactions never post, even weeks or months later. The ones that do tend to appear immediately. Transaction size doesn't seem to be the determinant, nor does type of merchant.
I'm not sure if this is a result of improperly-configured terminals, a glitch with foreign transaction processing happening on the Chinese end, or something else altogether. I've asked my Chinese bank about it, and (predictably) they have no clue about a cause....
