2nd stay after 2.5 months (against my better judgement because some positive reviews lead to me to give it another chance). I will use my original complain and update:
1) no free social hours - They want to charge 50% for the costs of items I want to order. This is just not right! Free social hours is a feature advertised by Hyatt as a Summerfield brand signature item.
Sept'11> still no go, still wants to charge 50%, Hyatt really needs to make clear of this or remove the free social hour from brand-wide benefit
2) horrible bath amenities - all I got was a tiny bottle of Patene shampoo with no conditioner, and a tiny bar of Jergen soap labeled for face. I was expecting the typical spread, so I didn't bring a lot of items with me on this trip, so needless to say, I had a bad hair day until I moved to a real Hyatt the next day.
Sep'11 > Improved! Standard Portico items with Colgate toothpaste
3) OLD OLD OLD - the kitchen is old, the room is old, the bathtub/shower is dirty. Definitely not up to the Hyatt standard.
Sep'11> Not much changed. They put out SS logo'ed things but not much renovation or brand refresh has occured.
4) slow than dial up internet - couldn't even check work emails. I had to use my Blackberry to read emails in EDGE mode; I guess AT&T doesn't have strong 3G coverage in the area.
Sept'11> Slightly better but probably because I didn't see a lot of cars in the parking and occupency was low.
5) rude staff - not accommodating at all and no where as helpful as the typical Hyatt staff. I raised several issues about my stay and that they are not up to Hyatt standard and all I got was a nasty look by one of the gals at the front desk.
Sept'11> Check-out staff was very polite - inline with Hyatt standard. Check-in staff was OK, a bit of attitude when I brought up the room issue -> see next
NEW issue:
I reserved the lowest cost room for a one nighter, room is shown as "Traditional Room". I checked the description before booking, and it appears to be a room with King bed but not a suite, which is fine for me. The room description indicate a workstation is in the room. However, the room didn't have a workstation or desk!!! It has a bed, one night stand, one TV stand, and one dresser. Of all the travels I have done in my life, being Diamond and Platinum with multiple chains, I have NEVER seen a hotel room with no desk and no chair. It's as simple as put up a wooden board and a chair, but NO, not even that. I raised the missing desk issue with the front desk but they faulted me for not getting a suite and that "Traditional Room" is stripped down and doesn't come with much. I had to repeatedly explain to the front desk the reservation system room description said it does. I finally had to use my Diamond status to force them for an "upgrade" to a room with a desk to match what I reserved.
This is so ridiculous on three fronts:
1) The room description is wrong on the reservation system if indeed the "Traditional Room" doesn't come with a desk;
2) What hotel room doesn't come with a desk??? Especially one next to business parks... Am I supposed to do emails on the toilet seat? Even the crammed hotels in Paris and Tokyo include a small desk;
3) Room upgrade for Diamond member should be automatic even though I didn't ask for one...
Overall, slight improvement over last stay but still ways off from normal Summerfield Suites expectation.
